Cataracts
Cataract refers to the clouding of the eye’s natural
lens so that light can’t pass through easily.

This cloudiness can vary from slight milkiness with
some hazy vision to complete white-out with blindness.

Over time the cataract can swell and even rupture spilling
milky-white fluid into the eye. This can cause extreme
inflammation and pain.

Healthy lenses are made up of proteins packed in such a way that
light can freely pass through the lens and get focused on the
retina.

In the cataract lens these proteins clump together so
that light gets scattered when it passes through the lens.
This is what causes the cloudy vision those with
cataracts experience.

Causes
There are several factors associated with causing
lens proteins to clump. Ultraviolet radiation from the
sun, diabetes, hypertension, and low eye-tissue
levels of antioxidants such as vitamin C, Vitamin A,
and glutathione are some to the major factors
implicated in cataract development.

Treatment
At late stages in cataract development the only treatment
than can help restore functional vision is surgery.

However, if caught in the beginning stages, there are
various antioxidants which can be applied topically
to the eye to reduce additional oxidative stress and
help delay or arrest further cataract development. These
ingredients are used alone or in combination with
other ingredients as determined by your doctor after
a clinical exam.
